about

OEM002

Recorded in Stockholm, processed and mixed at EMS. The album is basically a series of 'shots' with varying focal depths; some tracks are intensely detailed and heavily processed, some are completely raw field recordings.

Originally released on CDr on oem records in 2007 this is a 24-bit re-release with bonus field recordings.

Review by david de decker:

"Warning! This is a conceptual album about water... which means that listening to this in your car during a rainstorm may cause very uncomfortable situations. Believe me, I know!

Martin Clarke is a sound artist, recordist , and filmmaker based in Birmingham. He has a quite impressive CV with mainly sound-related activities. On slides, Clarke works with field recordings. The days that field recordings were especially used for ethnomusical research are way behind us. Field recordings are often used to make concrete music, avant garde music, ambient etc... . The real force behind this "Slides" cd-r is the quality of the recording. You have the tendency to look around and search where the water's at. Since Clarke especially works with dripping sounds you get this wonderful clicks and cuts effect with makes it a 100% natural non-indietronica album in some way or another.

I had a lot of fun listening to this album and I have the feeling that I will play this limited to 100 cd-r on Oem records a little more whenever we are having an extremely dry summer. Nice, adventurous, beautiful,... maybe a little bit arty though, but since the quality of this cd-r is so good we'll forgive him."
